🔍 What's Peppol?

Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement On-Line) is a secure network for exchanging electronic documents, standardized at the European level.

In particular, it allows you to send and receive :

  • Structured electronic invoices
  • Purchase orders
  • Acknowledgements of receipt or dispatch notices

This network ensures interoperability between systems, optimal traceability, and a reduction in manual errors.

Changes as of January 1, 2026

Belgium has decided to gradually impose the use of Peppol on all Belgian VAT-registered companies for their invoices. B2B transactions.

📤 From 2026, it will no longer be possible to send a simple PDF invoice by e-mail to your business customers :
All your invoices must go through Peppolin a structured electronic format (XML UBL).

👥 Who is concerned?

All Belgian companies subject to VAT
✔️ Self-employed, SMEs, large companies
✔️ Foreign companies with a permanent establishment in Belgium

❌ Not concerned:

  • Companies under a lump-sum regime
  • VAT-exempt activities (Art. 44)
  • B2C invoices (end consumers)
